The following story covers our recent upgrade to an air-source heat pump, which works in conjunction with our fuel oil furnace. The efficiency of heat pumps has improved in recent years and most of our building projects that do not have access to natural gas now have propane forced-air furnaces with heat pumps instead. The heat pumps provide heat and can help to conserve propane.
The heat pump that I am writing about is an air-source heat pump and it looks very similar to a conventional air conditioning condenser unit like those that sit outside of a house. According to the United States Department of Energy, “an air source heat pump can deliver one-and-a-half to three times more heat energy than the electrical energy it consumes”.
TREASURE ISLAND â City commissioners soundly rejected a planning staff recommendation to deny new owners of the Tahitian Resort two variances that would allow them to remodel the 60-year-old hotel and construct a raised pool deck and tiki bar.
The Tahitian Resort property comprises a hotel consisting of three structures with a total of 44 units at 11320 Gulf Blvd, and another hotel building consisting of two structures with a total of 10 units at 11275 Gulf Blvd.
In order to renovate the hotel and add a raised pool and tiki deck, city staff told the applicant they require a parking variance and another variance to meet a minimum open space requirement.

My husband, Chris, and I are very excitedly awaiting approval by our homeowners association for an addition to our house. We are adding a deck. It’s not insanely fancy, but it is covered, so we did go through all the HOA guidelines and hired a designer and consulted with the Brushy Creek MUD folks just to make sure we would not have any issues before we started. Now we are waiting for them to say yes. It has not been that long, but it seems like an eternity! I remember applying to college and to various jobs, running out to the mailbox over and over, or constantly checking my answering machine (because I’m old!) to see if I’d gotten an answer. I know it will come. I just am like a kid on Christmas Eve! Come on, Santa!!!

Millcreek residents might have access to a new skating rink this Thanksgiving if construction goes according to plan for a new plaza in the center of the city.
Ground was broken Tuesday for the rink, which is just one component of the city’s vision for the Millcreek Common, on a 6-acre area off 1300 East and 3300 South. Mayor Jeff Silvestrini said Millcreek ultimately hopes to build a “European-style” plaza there, surrounded by shops, restaurants and housing. Part of the lot will also be an open green space with grass and trees.
“I’d like to welcome all of you here to Millcreek Common, which is just a pile of dirt right now, but someday this is going to be an amazing city center,” said Silvestrini at Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony.
